LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 2: The Spartan Warrior

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 2 8684 The Spartan WarriorThe Spartan Warrior is exclusive to set 8684, The Collectible Minifigure Series 2.

Minifigure Parts and Accessories

The Spartan is composed of five main parts: helmet, head, torso, legs, and cape.

The helmet is new to the LEGO universe, not having been included in previous sets. Gold in color, it features a red printed crest. The closest we've come to a similar design would be the Dwarven helmet (part 60748) or Star Wars Senate Commando helm (part 64806pb01). Detailed pics of the helmet can be seen here.

The head print is also new featuring a scowling face with heavy brows, a dark mustache, and soul patch.

The torso features a new armor print with bare, yellow arms.

The legs are quite unique with a red, leather skirt print. There's even print on the feet to simulate the appearance of sandals.

The cape appears to be a dark red number of the standard cape design. If truly dark red, this will either be a new color for standard capes or one that has not been available for some time.

The accessories for this fig are a round shield and spear. The shield is similar to part 3876 which appeared in Castle sets of yore. The concentric circles are gone, and the 'nougat' color would be new. The hole in the center could have some interesting custom applications.

The spear is a new design. The traditional LEGO spear (part4497) is not as detailed as The Spartan's weapon. This new spear is more detailed with a wonderful diamond shaped tip. The length of the spear may be longer than the standard as well. Overall, a great addition to anyone's arsenal.

Detailed pictures of all parts and accessories can be seen here.

Army Building Potential

Do I need to say it? High. High, high, high. A simple head change and your ready to reenact the battle of Thermopylae with your Prince of Persia Hassansins. Not only will the figures be desired in multiples, but several of the individual parts have strong custom potential as well.

Feeling It Out

Although there was some debate on the effectiveness of this technique, I would be looking for both the helmet and the shield.

Bar Codes

The following are the secondary bar codes that can be found on the back of each bag which indicates the figure inside. The EU bar codes are shown on the left and the US bar codes are shown on the right. These bar codes come courtesy of Grogall. You can find a single pdf containing all bar codes here.

Official LEGO.com Bio

“For Sparta!”

The Spartan Warrior’s favorite thing in the world to do is fight. He keeps his spear, shield and crested helmet polished and clean at all times, just waiting for the next big battle to start. The problem is that there really isn’t much of a call for ancient Spartan soldiers these days, so he mostly sits around and watches historical documentaries on TV.

Since he doesn’t get to do much fighting, the Spartan Warrior tries all sorts of things to keep himself in fighting shape. He goes jogging every morning, swims at the pool in the afternoon, and even takes dancing classes at the nearby school to make sure he stays fit and trim for the next big battle!

The Big Draw

Top to bottom all of these parts and accessories are new. I would expect the helmet and spear to be the most desired elements. Like The Zombie was for Series 1, I anticipate this will be the figure to watch (and grab hold of) for Series 2.
