S.W.A.T.'s That You Say? New BrickForge Gear?

BrickForge SWAT print helmet and riot shieldI'm so 'punny'...(sound of a cricket riding a tumbleweed)...Ahem.

The folks at BrickForge have recently posted new S.W.A.T. print gear (helment and riot shield). You can see the custom minifigure modeling these fine products courtesy of Armothe. Visit the BrickForge store soon. Armothe claims these items sold out in three hours at Brickworld Chicago.

Two sets of new product news in two days. Not bad.

miniBIGS' Zombies Attack

With all of the custom zombie hunters popping up as part of the World War Z movement, miniBIGS felt they needed something more to hunt than a hoard of dead business men.

Enter "Al" and "Myron". These two gents premiered at Brickworld Chicago this last weekend. There is a third, female zombie figure ("Sharon") not shown here.

Mariann's Got The Goods from Brickworld

Mariann Asanuma just got back from Brickworld Chicago and is reporting on all the fun from over the weekend. On her site are these two pics of cool new products from BrickForge, available in the coming months.

Check out the centaur body, stone axe, and violin in blue. Not to mention the scimitar and brass knuckles in gold. Can't wait for these to go on sale!

LEGO Star Wars Imperial Shuttle Minfigs

LEGO Star Wars set 10212 Imperial Shuttle Minifigures
By now you've likely seen the pictures from Gizmodo or Brickworld showing the new LEGO Star Wars set 10212, Imperial Shuttle, due out in September. The shuttle itself is quite drool worthy, but what about the five minifigs that come with it?

I think most of the production effort went into the set, sadly to say. Most of the figures are reissues of existing offerings.

Jedi Luke is largely the same fig that came with set 10188, Death Star. White pupils have been added to the face print, but that's it.

Darth Vader also appears to be the same as the figure that came with the Death Star set and 8017, Darth Vader's TIE Fighter. We don't have pics of this Vader sans helmet, but I wouldn't expect much new under the hood.

The Stormtrooper shown is a bit of a mystery. Most of the new Stormtroopers have the dotted mouth pattern printed on the helmet. The variant shown here does not and better resembles sw109a (minus pauldron) which came with set 7659, Imperial Landing Craft.

The Imperial Commander appears to be an updated version of sw114. The torso print of the uniform appears to be more basic. The head print has been updated, featuring a new, but basic, expression.

The Imperial Pilot is the most unique of the lot. He is most similar to sw208; however, the torso print varies in small ways. The facial print is new, but the cavalry cap (part 30135) has appeared in black previously.

Overall assessment? There's not too much to get excited about here. Some updates? Sure. This still doesn't place these figures in a more affordable range given the price point of 10212. If you are going to buy this set, do it for the shuttle, not for the figs.

It May Not Be Christmas, But Don't Be a Jerk

Tonight is movie night at Brickworld Chicago. One of the films that will be featured is a new LEGO music video by Garret Barati. Barati was the grand prize winner of the 2008 "Built By Me Movie" contest sponsored by Nickelodeon and LEGO. The winning film? Check it out below.

Here's hoping there will be more brickfilms from tonight posted later in the week.

Paganomation and Brickworld Opening Ceremonies

Yesterday at Brickworld Chicago David Pagano hosted a workshop on animating LEGO and creating brick films. David created this brief film that kicked off the festivities.

Who is David Pagano you ask? You may not be familiar with the man, but you've likely seen his work on LEGO.com. David has animated the Space Police III films that currently appear on the micro site. The second clip comes from LEGO Club TV which visits David at his home where he discussed his process. You can also find the different SPIII episodes on his YouTube channel.

Brickmania WWII Battle Sets

Brickmania US Marines Set 236Dan Siskind of Brickmania has brought two new custom sets to Brickworld Chicago. The first is a US Marines Minifigure set featuring four minifig marines in the classic (read yellow) style. There are two brick built guns including a .30 caliber gun on a tripod. The set features BrickArms weapons and Fine Clonier decals. The set is exclusive to Brickworld for now but Dan states it will be up at the Brickmania site for $75 plus postage.

The second set is that of a WW II era Japanese Garrison. Also with four minifigures and two guns, the set shows off how good design and great custom parts can come together. The Garrison set also will retail for $75 plus postage.

BrickArms' German Soldiers at Brickworld

BrickArms Printed German Heer Soldier
Brickworld Chicago officially kicks off tomorrow, but BrickArms isn't wasting any time.

Brickmania has posted these printed German Heer Soldiers which will be on sale at the convention for $15.00 (USD). No promises that these will go on sale at the BrickArms store or future conventions. The packages don't include any weapons.

If you're in Chicago this weekend it would be a great opportunity to pick up BrickArms second printed minifigure without that pesky shipping and handling.

It would also appear that BrickArms has also brought new Zombie Defense packs to the show!

"Containment" Has Been Released

A few days ago we had an article about the vignette collaboration between Legohaulic and Nannan. At the time we wondered if things would come to a conclusion at Brickworld Chicago. Well, see for yourself...

Boldly Go...To Brickworld Chicago

BrickForge just posted this image on Flickr with the following caption:

Registered attendees of Brickworld 2010 Chicago will receive a random custom minifig avatar with some top secret instructions.

If you've been following, the theme of Brickworld is Bricks In Space. Clearly this ties in with the larger theme. I'm intrigued to see what the 'top secret' instructions happen to be...
