LEGOfussball.eu Source of World Cup Brickfilms

Have you been watching the LEGO recreations of World Cup 2010 highlights? Did you know that although The Guardian has often received credit for these brickfilms, they are actually the efforts of Fabian Moritz and LEGOfussball.eu? You did?! Oh...um...well, for those who didn't know...

There's a short article on Tubefilter News that shares the history of Fabian's passion. You can even go to LEGOfussball.eu where you can see a trove of these brickfilm highlights, past and present. You can see the most famous film of the series (USA vs. England) below.

With the coverage of World Cup action this year, the real stars of the tournament appear to be those damnable vuvuzelas. Perhaps we'll see a soccer/football fan in Series 3 of Collectible Minifigures with a vuvuzela accessory?

More LEGO World Cup Goodness from Guardian

The Guardian has posted a new LEGO brickfilm depicting the "highlights" from the England vs. Algeria World Cup match. The most notable part of the clip is when England's Wayne Rooney leaves the field and says, "Nice to see your own fans booing you, you football 'supporters'."

As the article notes, the quote seems quite different when coming from the smiling face of a minifigure.

England World Cup Journey in LEGO Animation

Supposedly there's this thing called World Cup 2010 happening right now. I gather that it involves "soccer" and LEGO minifigures in some way based on the video below...

Minifigure Retrospective of Reggie Jackson

Reggie Jackson minifigureCustom minifigure designer Shmails has created a minifigure retrospective of Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson. The amount of detail that Shmails has put into these custom figs is a great indication of their devotion to the legend and is a fitting tribute.

Although LEGO has had sports themes in the past, seeing these figures makes me believe there's life in the old dog yet.

High interest in The Cheerleader collectible minifigure coming out this June seems to be further evidence that future themes in sports have potential. You wouldn't even need to dedicate an entire play theme to it, just have a collectible minifigure series dedicated to all-time sports legends.
