Quick Hits: On the Road Again

I've been traveling over the past few days, so posts are a little erratic. True to form, Tuesday had a lot of news to offer...

It sounds like LEGO bricks-and-mortar stores are now getting in the 2011 non-licensed sets. Reported by Toys N Bricks, I don't know if these are full set line ups or just a select few. I know last year it was just a subset of the full line. Either way, give your local LEGO store a call and see what they have in.

It would seem that 'tommy gun' element I noticed on the LEGO Pharaoh's Quest minisite is a reality. Marianne posted pics of set 7307, Flying Mummy Attack, which showed two of them attached to the biplane model. Some great new elements with this set as well, including the mummy wings, Horus-themed headgear, and of course the new figs. If the report above is true, then you might be able to head on down to the LEGO store and pick one up soon. Picture from Marianne's Model Building Secrets Blog.

Bricks Down Under is reporting that Aussie fans can potentially win an entire set of the Series 1 LEGO Collectible Minifigures just by signing up for Mini Brick Toys mailing list. The winner will be announced this Sunday, so hurry on over and sign up.

BrickArms posted this pic showing a pile of custom of Winter and Heer Soldier minifig torsos. Will promises that these will be available 'soon'.

JasBrick posted this wonderful custom Clone Commando yesterday. Jas painted the visor on the Arealight helmet and digitally 'tweaked' it to make it glow. Although the glowing effect was added in, I'm amazed at how he gives you a sense of depth to the visor. It almost looks like the visor has been cut into the piece. The Arealight helmets are popping up all over Flickr these days, showing the popularity of these pieces.

Customizer Julian Fong (AKA levork) is donating a whole series of his DC Super Hero minifigs to the 2010 Creations for Charity. This means you have an opportunity to get one of these great figs and helep out a worthy cause at the same time. At last count, the fundraiser has earned over $5,000 for Toys for Tots. A strong showing for the entire LEGO community and minifig customizers.

That's all for now, Minifig Nation. More news when I can. Also, don't forget to check the Flickr Favorites page periodically. I'm constantly updating this with new finds from Flickr everyday, traveling or not.

Levork is Back with New Wave of DC Heroes

As I'm certain regular readers have heard, ad nausem, my Dark Ages unfortunately ended after the LEGO Batman sets were no more. That's why it always cheers me up when I see these great custom superheroes from Julian Fong (AKA Levork).

A new wave of character after a long haitus, Julian has recreated Red Son Superman, The Question, Batwoman, Booster Gold, and Geoforce.

Julian also has a great group shot of characters from the DC pantheon on his Flickr stream. He claims that his villains are ready to be revisited. Here's hoping well see them really soon...

Name? The Doctor. Doctor Who?!

Artist Ulises Farinas is back, but instead of depicting his favorite DC and Marvel superheroes as minifigs, he's turned his eye to Doctor Who.

Although I've only ever seen the adventures of The Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston), there are quite a few familiar faces!

Aquaman Versus British Petroleum

Graznodor2 has posted this vignette on Flickr depicting Aquaman and his "sea friends" attempting to stop the gusher in the gulf.

I love how humor and LEGO can come together to shed light (and make light) of an unfortunate situation. If you look at the other pictures on Flickr you'll see all of the figures who are trapped in the flow including Spongebob, a mermaid, Atlantis and Aquazone divers, and a whole school of fish.

Although they didn't come out and say it, I believe this may be an entry in the Eurobrick's Collectible Minifigure vignette contest. The missing collectible figure, in this case, would be The Deep Sea Diver.

In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night

Customizer miniBIGS has designed and is currently selling this Green Lantern minifigure. I'm guessing this is Hal Jordan after his rebirth and infection by Parallax.

With Warner Brothers releasing a new film on June 17th, 2011 starring Ryan Reynolds, there's always the possibility of a LEGO Green Lantern line. I could see it being a mash-up of LEGO Space and Batman themes. I could also see a whole series of vehicle sets in trans-green bricks; constructs of Hal Jordan's power ring.

Here's to hoping someone out there is working on an entire mini-Corps and the many hued lanterns; red, orange, yellow, blue...

We Interrupt Fantasy LEGO League This Week to Bring You This...

With all of the activity going on across the Interwebs this week, I haven't had time to dedicate towards this week's Fantasy LEGO League entry.

Fear not citizen! Comics Alliance comes to the rescue with this story on posters by artist Ulises Farinas depicting Marvel, DC, and Star Trek characters as minifigures. This dovetails nicely with FLF, no?!

...Slade, Found!

I mentioned earlier today that it would be great if Levork had a custom Slade minifigure from Teen Titans. We'll not only does he have Slade, but he also has Sinestro, Weather Wizard, Captain Cold, and Zoom, The Reverse Flash!

Teen Titans!

Levork (aka Julian Fong)had added these killer Teen Titan custom minifigures to his Flickr stream.

I've not been aware of Levork's work previously, but it looks like he has a lot of custom minifigures that intersect comics and LEGO. I look forward to seeing more from Julian in the future.

Now let's see if he has a custom Slade somewhere...
