Mike Rayhawk is Awesome

...and if you think otherwise, you'll have to take it up with Manly Santa, Warhead, and Zombie Lincoln. Mike's been busy the past couple years with a rather large LEGO online themed project, but the creator of BrikWars can't be contained for long.

Mike posted this via Facebook, but you can see more of his amazing work at his web site - MikeRayhawk.com.

Cake and Neave - The Little Artists

Malifios'...I mean...Dali's Lobster Phone
John Cake and Darren Neave are two artists who have been taking several works of popular contemporary art and transforming them into LEGO-fied versions. These LEGO sculptures are then enlarged via photography. I'm certain I'm not doing their work justice in its description, so I thought I would include an excerpt from their website:

'The sculptural pieces transpose key works, by the likes of Hirst, Beuys and Koons, to the microcosmic scale of the Lego world, forming miniature, fetishistic relics that subvert the grand gestures of these artists. Their large photographs take these works and artists and re-present them as tableaux vivants, confronting the viewer with the once tiny Lego world on a unsettling human scale.

The central theme to their work is an attempt to understand the significance of contemporary art and the consumerist culture in which it is produced. They have always seen a poignancy in Lego as a medium to explore this relationship, and especially the idea of the artist as a brand-name.'

See? Just like I described it. Personally I just find it 'neat'. You can see more of Cake and Neave's work on their website.

Name? The Doctor. Doctor Who?!

Artist Ulises Farinas is back, but instead of depicting his favorite DC and Marvel superheroes as minifigs, he's turned his eye to Doctor Who.

Although I've only ever seen the adventures of The Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston), there are quite a few familiar faces!

Mike Rayhawk Illustrations

Yesterday we talked about BrikWars, the LEGO war gaming/role-playing system. We mentioned one of the founders Mike Rayhawk, but did you know much of the art on the BrikWars site is Mike's too?

Mike actually worked for LEGO in concept design and product development. He was even the lead illustrator for LEGO Knights Kingdom, handling much of the promotional artwork for that line.

His resume shows him currently working at 'an undisclosed game studio'. Now I assume that Mike has interests beyond miniature ABS humanoids, but this could be something to keep an eye on.

I have attached a copy of one of Mike's more famous illustrations for the BrikWars project aptly titled, "BrikWars!" Check out more of his work at the website below.

UPDATE: Me thinks that Mike might be at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend (see comments for details). Me also thinks that he had a hand in some of the designs for LEGO Universe MMO...
